In June 2016, I was attending a professional networking event when I realized that the acronym on my name tag was literally repelling people. It simply read SAHM (Stay-at-Home Mom). I was completely unprepared for the snubs and had to ignore the impulse to go home defeated. Instead, I chose to ask a fellow networker why she had turned away. She admitted that since I wasn’t working, she felt we could not possibly have anything meaningful to talk about.
